The father died a few hours after being taken to hospital.

Since the accident, Faith can no longer talk, walk, hold anything, sit, eat solid food or control her bowels. She only takes milk and porridge.

According to her grandmother, Nancy Chirambo, who is looking after Faith and her mother, the two spent six weeks in hospital.

The mother recovered, but the girl was left paralysed. Before the accident, she was able to walk, run, talk and do other things. She was also going to school.

Said Chirambo:  “Doctors said she is still in shock and will recover as she grows up. However, they also said there is need to take her to private hospitals regularly for physiotherapy for quick recovery, which I cannot manage as it is costly.

“I am already struggling to buy her milk and flour. She also needs diapers as she cannot control her bowels and urine. Her mother is jobless, and I also lost my husband. I am a mere primary school teacher and I also look after five other children.

“We just thank God that we are able to survive, but if there are people of goodwill out there, they should assist us to take her to private hospitals.” n
