Rotary Club of Lilongwe has donated fruit tree seedlings to women of Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe to enhance their efforts in managing forests.

Speaking on Saturday during a tree-planting exercise in the area, the club’s president William Matambo said they gave the women 2 410 guava and orange fruit tree seedlings.

“Women are also key players in sustainable forestry management,” he said.

Matambo urged the women to protect the trees so that they can survive.

In his remarks, group village head Msambo commended the club for giving the women the tree seedlings.

“We need to involve women and men in forestry management,” he said.

Katsumba forest chairperson Julius Silima said the trees will not only benefit women, but also men.

President Lazarus Chakwera launched the National Tree Planting Season in December last year in Nkhata Bay.
