Rotary Club of Lilongwe holds dental camp at KCH
The Rotary Club of Lilongwe with support from its partners is holding a week-long dental camp at Kamuzu Central hospital (KCH).
In a written response, the club’s president Vincent Sikelo said the camp aims at giving less privileged people within and outside Lilongwe city free dental services which are always rendered at a cost at KCH.
He said: “The camp, therefore, accords people to access the much needed dental services for free. Rotarians become happy when those in need get the needed help and support. The cost for this year is estimated at over K4 million.
“Communities are allowed to access the services for a period of five days, Monday to Friday. Rotary Club of Lilongwe has been running the dental camp project for the past 11 years and over 13 000 dental patients have been treated at KCH and Bwaila”.
Sikelo said the camp supports about 1 000 dental patients a year, but this year 1 200 patients are expected to receive free treatment at KCH and Bwaila.
KCH director Dr Jonathan Ngoma commended the club for the initiative saying government alone cannot afford everything as demands for services are many.
