The second phase of the newly introduced rugby senior national team’s trials takes place next month, team manager Cathrew Chimimba has said.

“The next camp will take place during the Easter weekend, with Blantyre-based players to train Wednesdays and Saturdays,” said Chimimba yesterday.

The first phase of the trials took place at the High Performance Centre of the College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex last weekend.

The Malawi team – which is gearing up for Confederation of Africa Rugby test matches scheduled for Swaziland this year – in the initial phase did team-building exercises, anaerobic and aerobic fitness tests.

Game plan and light contact sessions were also part of the trials that pooled 33 players from teams around the country.

“The camp was a great success; the players came to camp with positive attitudes and great enthusiasm. The players responded and adapted well to the instructions given by the coaching panel. It took them a short time to understand and implement the game plan,” concluded Chimimba.
