Flames gangly forward Russell Mwafulirwa is reported to have travelled back to Sweden where he intends to join his former club IFK Norrkoping.

The lanky forward could not be reached for his confirmation on Thursday, but Flames coach Kinnah Phiri confirmed the development.

“Russell sent me a text a few days ago informing me that he was back in Sweden where he is planning to rejoin his former team. He indicated that he would update me with more details at a later stage,” said Kinnah.

Mwafulirwa’s move to rejoin his former South African club Jomo Cosmos fell through recently as he had difficulties getting a permanent residence permit.

In a related development, Flames stand-in captain Moses Chavula has said he is yet to find a club as his manager is still trying to work out something.

“My manager has just told me to get ready for a move outside South Africa, but he is yet to furnish me with the details,” said Chavula from Durban yesterday.

Meanwhile, another Flames striker Chiukepo Msowoya completed his extended trials with University of Pretoria (UP) on Wednesday with a trial match against Platinum Stars and his agent Felix Ngamanya-Sapao said they will not offer him a deal.

“As I said, having been impressed with his performance in his previous trial game last week, the coach extended the trial period, but they have made their position plain that they are not going to sign him. So, we just have to weigh other options that are there now,” said Sapao from Pretoria.
