Gabadinho: I will focus on my job

Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango’s agent Mike Makaab has quashed reports linking the Flames hot shot with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

In a brief response to The Nation’s questionnaire verifying www.goal.com ’s report that Chiefs had launched a bid for the Bloemfontein Celtic top striker, Makaab said: “This is purely speculation.”

The authoritative football website reported that “Goal understands that Siwelele [Celtic] are determined to hold on to their star, but could be tempted to do business with Chiefs should they be presented with a good offer.”

Sources close to the player and Chiefs confirmed to The Nation that the Soweto giants had earmarked Mhango, Celtic’s Golden Boot awardee and South Africa Young Player of the Year nominee, as replacement for Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona whose loan spell expired last season.

Celtic are believed to have tied Mhango to a long-term contract following the expiry of his initial spell. Celtic were reluctant to sign Mhango, who they earlier discarded as being too short for a target-man, on a long-term deal.

“I only listen to what my club and my agent tells me instead of believing what is written in the papers. My club and my agent have both not mentioned anything to me, so I will keep on focusing on my job here at Celtic, instead of getting myself all confused and then losing focus just because people are talking. For now I am very happy because I am at home here and settled,” Mhango told the latest Kick-Off edition.

Despite joining them while the season was in progress, Mhango scored nine goals in 16 Celtic appearances last season. For country, he has three in 13 appearances.
