Salima councillors seek CSOs’ intervention

Listen to this article

Salima District Council chairperson Peter Kadammanja has appealed to civil society organisations (CSOs) working in the district to sensitise members of Parliament (MPs) and civil servants on the roles and mandates of councillors.

Kadammanja made the sentiments during a meeting between CSOs and councillors that was organised by National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust.

He said: “I know we have been welcomed in the councils, but I have observed that some people within the council secretariat and the MPs are showing some elements of disapproval of our presence.

“We need you CSOs to bring us together on the round-table where we can make things straight.”

Kadammanja said that there is a need to end any misunderstanding because all players have an important role to play in the development of the council.

Responding to the call, secretary for Salima CSOs network, Fletcher Simwaka, said that the CSOs will strategise on how to bring the three sides together.

Nice Trust district civic education officer Madalitso Ngwira said the trust funded the meeting as part of its mission of enhancing democracy.
