Sammy’s Super Cup in knockout stages

The K2 million (about $6 600) Sammy’s Super Cup enters the round of 16 next week.

In Group A leaders Soche United, with 19 points, have been joined by Yedecom, Ire Mafumu and Barcelona in the knockout phases. Group B has Hiras as winners on 23 points, alongside Matalala, BCA Stars and Newlands.

In Group C, Bottle Tops emerged on top with 22 points followed by Foundation, Limbe Socials and Red Eye.

Williams won Group D with 20 points joined by Kings United, Real Hammers and Heaters. Kings United’s striker Christopher Chisasa is the leading scorer with 19 goals.

The competition’s publicity secretary Trevor Kajawa said the league phase has gone on well.

“It has been competitive and the teams in the last 16 round really deserve it. Special mention to Chisasa, who has banged in goals for fun and has shown that he is a quality player who can make it big in the Super League.

“We have given the teams a week to rest, then the round of 16 games will be played,” said Kajawa.

The following are the round of 16 fixtures: Soche United vs Limbe Socials@ Soche; Yedecom vs Red Eye @ Naizi; Bottle Top vs Ire Mafumu@ Chigumula; Foundation vs Barcelona@ Naizi, Hiras FC vs Real Hammers @ Chigumula; Matalala vs Heaters @ Soche, Williams vs BCA Stars@ Naizi and Kings United vs Manje @ Soche.
