Big Bullets captain and defence pillar Sankhani Mkandawire flew out to Polokwane, South Africa on Sunday for trials with National First Division (NFD) side Black Leopards.

Bullets chairperson Kondi Msungama confirmed the player’s trip, saying he is expected back this Saturday, August 9 just a day before Bullets line up against Zomba United in a Carlsberg Cup final.

“I can confirm that Sankhani departed today alongside Leopards defender Harry Nyirenda who was in the country for national duty,” said Msungama.

He said initially Mkandawire was supposed to attend the trials last month, but they had to reschedule his trip owing to club and national team engagements.

“The other reason was that he got injured just a day before he was supposed to travel and we wanted him to recover so that he could give out his best,” said Msungama who is also Leopards’ director.

Three years ago, Mkandawire also had a stint with Carara Kicks in the South African NFD.
