Big Bullets chairperson Kondie Msungama has assured that Black Leopards’ failed South Africa Premiership promotion bid will not affect defender Sankhani Mkandawire’s transfer from the People’s Team.

The Leopards earmarked Mkandawire to bolster their backline in anticipation of promotion from the National First Division, but lost 2-1 to Polokwane City on Sunday, raising fears in Bullets over the transfer.

But Msungama, who travelled to watch the promotion/relegation play-off in Limpopo, said yesterday that Leopards will proceed to recruit Mkandawire, who is set to join compatriot Harry Nyirenda.

“For the sake of transparency, they will send an air ticket for another Bullets official to accompany the player next month to agree on the transfer fee and seal the deal,” he said.

Mkandawire, who had a stint with defunct Carara Kicks also in South Africa, referred The Nation to Bullets officials.

Bullets general secretary Harold Fote earlier said the two clubs tentatively agreed on a transfer fee.

In a separate interview Nyirenda on Wednesday said they had since gone on off season break until June 29, adding: “We tried out best, but luck was not on our side.”
