Scottish Minister visits Malawi
The Scottish Government’s External Affairs and International Development Minister, Humza Yousaf arrived in the country on Tuesday to strengthen links between the two countries.
A a press statement dated January 20 said the minister will visit projects funded by the Scotland through its International Development Fund (IDF) and its ground-breaking Climate Justice Fund (CJF).
Yousaf will receive the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton as it arrives in both countries as part of its 288-day journey around 70 nations and territories of the commonwealth.
“The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, represented through the arrival of the Queen’s Baton in its journey, presents an unrivalled chance for Scotland to make new connections and deepen existing relationships with Malawi and Zambia and other countries around the commonwealth.
“Scotland and Malawi already have a long history of collaboration, particularly in health and education, and more recently in the field of renewable energy and climate change, and we are determined to build on this and move the relationship to the next level.
“We want to build on our links with Zambia and to work together, especially in the area of climate change,” he said.
