Shushy Pool Club on Sunday demonstrated their credentials as serious title contenders in the 2015 Themba Mkandawire Ndirande Pool League when they won a seven-team knock-out bonanza that marked the launch of the new season at Ndirande Market.

Last season, the outfit finished on position 12 in the 15-team league, but they proved that they will be capable of challenging for the league title next season after winning five matches, including a 3-2 triumph over Carport in the finals of the day-long bonanza.

“This was a wonderful warm up. As you have seen, we are determined to make great strides in the next league season,” said one of the team’s senior players, Dave Kankhuni.

According to the league’s treasurer Peter Jailosi, the new season will start this weekend.

Mkandawire, who is sponsoring the K150 000 league for the third year, said it pleases him to contribute to the development of the sport in the populace township.

“This competition helps our players to be always active and this in turn helps our teams prepare well for regional and national tournaments. Just last month, our team, Young Snipers, who are the league’s titleholders, won the Under-23 National Championships,” he said.
