Sienta donation excites ‘phungu’ Joseph Nkasa

When musician Joseph Nkasa wrote the song Anamva in the early 200s, he was venting his anger on an unfulfilled promise by former president Bakili Muluzi during his tenure.

It is alleged that Muluzi announced at one of his rallies that he would buy the musician a car to appreciate the musician’s great compositions.

Time passed and Nkasa did not get his promised car, prompting him to record a song in protest.

But on Saturday night, the musician performed the song half way before halting it to address the issue.

He said: “You may have noticed that I have abruptly ended the song. This is because finally the car donation was given to me. A very comfortable car called Sienta was given to me.

“Caleb Thole did the needful. This is a man I never knew. He decided to give me what I was promised by others a long time ago. May God bless you sir and enlarge your territory.”

The musician repeatedly referred to the Sienta as a very “comfortable car” which he said he is enjoying every day.

Thole presented the car to Nkasa last year, describing him as a legend that deserves recognition and support.

The musician was performing at Mibawa Multipurpose Hall Studios in Limbe.

During the performance, monitored on Mibawa Television, Nkasa performed several of his hit songs for close to two hours. Among other things, he did Mphuno Salota, Chilungamo, Mose Wa Lero, Chiyanjano Cha Lero among others.

His energy on stage was unmatched though at times he seemed to struggle a little in terms of coordination with the band backing him.

The show was sponsored by WS Betting.
