It was a great win for Silver who have been struggling in the league of late.

Silver coach Stain Chirwa said this is the beginning of great things to come.

“We have never won the Carlsberg Cup before and I am excited we are in the quarter-finals. We started slowly as we had to be cautious playing our opponent for the first time. After they had conceded three goals, we knew we had them,” he said.

Chirwa said he is now focused to go all the way to win the cup.

“We need some silverware for our fans and it would be sweet to win the Carlsberg Cup. It is going to be tough road of course,” he said.

To achieve that Silver need only to win two more games.

At Nankhaka Ground, hosts Blue Eagles were bundled out of the cup by Mafco FC from Salima. The game had to be decided through penalty shoot outs after regulation time ended 1-1.

Christopher John Banda scored for Eagles while Callisto Kalinda levelled for Mafco inside 90 minutes of play.

Mafco went on to score four penalties against one Eagles to progress to the quarter-finals.
