Silver Stadium closed
Silver Strikers management has closed its stadium effective this week. The move follows a project meant to upgrade the facility so that it is also used for other commercial activities.
The stadium is expected to be closed to all activities for six months.
The club’s general secretary Mike Tembo said the project has been undertaken to transform the facility.
“We are also constructing a lounge, a gym and other recreational facilities. We want Silver to be a complete stadium with amenities associated with a complete stadium. We have to make most use of the stadium to generate income for the running of the team,” he said.
Tembo said the project is part of the fulfilment of the Fifa 2009 Lilongwe Declaration in which Super League clubs signed.
He said they have since engaged a professional contractor to do the work, but Tembo could not reveal how much the project will cost upon completion.
“I do not have the actual figures for this project, but it is big budget as we aim to achieve financial success as a club,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tembo said they are yet to meet as a club to decide on a stadium they will use for home matches.
“We have to find a home ground. The options are either Civo Stadium or Nankhaka, but we are yet to discuss that as an executive and also approach management of the two stadiums,” he said.
Good idea but too late, when a first rate gym and other recreational facilities are being built in area 47 by the chines who will want to come to silver stadium. Bvuto la a malawi, kukopela, no original ideas.
Good Idea bankers, let the players have the right fitness level. You have taken the right step towards commercialisation drive.
