Silver Strikers rope in Franco Ndawa

Barely three weeks after he was sacked at Mighty Wanderers, Frank ‘Fanco’ Ndawa is set to be taken on board as head coach by TNM Super League reigning champions, Silver Strikers.

The Bankers’ vice-chairperson Daud Ntanthiko confirmed the news on Monday whereas Ndawa could not be reached for comment.

Said Ntanthiko: “It is very true that we are in the process of hiring Mr. Ndawa. I would say administratively, negotiations are still going on, but in principle, yes, we are hiring him.”

But Ntanthiko could not be drawn to comment on what will happen to the incumbent head coach Thom Mkorongo.

“All I can say for now is that we are in the process of reviewing our coaching panel.”

He also defended the move to engage Ndawa, saying the fact that Wanderers terminated his contract due to poor results does not mean that he is a failure.

“I would not want to speak on behalf of Wanderers because there might have been factors that contributed to his [Ndawa’s] failure to perform. Similarly, I can be dismissed at my current workplace, but that does not mean I cannot work effectively elsewhere,” said Ntanthiko.

The Bankers are currently at the summit of the flagship league with 31 points from 14 games.

Ndawa is reported to have watched the Bankers’ Super League game against Mafco on Sunday from the terraces.
