Is there a sin which God cannot really forgive? Our correspondent Temwa Mhone talked to some pastors who explained why a sin can be unpardonable.

The Lord forgives any sin committed, no matter how bad that sin is. But are some sins unforgivable?
The Bible, especially in the book of Isaiah 1:8 (Today English Version-TEV) “The Lord says. Now let’s settle the matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool”.  But God’s forgiveness of a sin also depends on the one you have sinned against.
The gospel, according to the book of Luke 12:10, says: “Whoever says a word against the Son of Man can be forgiven; but those who say evil things against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven”.
Why is this so? Lunzu CCAP moderator the Reverend Nelson Muwa said the sin against the Holy Spirit is connected with denial of Jesus Christ.
“Take note that the Pharisees as they hatred Jesus, did not deny his miracles, which were too numerous and too well-known to deny. Though miracles were benevolent, the Pharisees attributed them [miracles] to satanic origin,” Muwa said.
He said such accusations were evidence of a nature almost beyond redemption.
“This may be the impact of Jesus’ words in Luke 12. Jesus seems to make a distinction between sin against Him and sin against the Holy Spirit, verse 32,” said Muwa.
Muwa added that sin against the Holy Spirit, which is not forgivable, is an eternal sin.
“Those who reject Christ deny the Holy Spirit and committing the unforgivable sin because there will never be another sacrifice for human sin. Jesus did it on the cross once for all,” he said.
Pastor Lawrence Gama of Bangwe Seventh Day Adventist said the unforgivable sin is the denial of Holy Spirit’s advice. n
