Sipe sells Malawi to Africa

Malawi’s Big Brother representative yesterday impressed visitors from the One Campaign initiative and Africa at large when she convincingly spoke about Malawi.

Apart from inviting the three visitors to Malawi, Sipe highly spoke about Lake Malawi, the beauty of the country and why it is called the Warm Heart of Africa, much to the delight of fellow housemates and the visitors.

This week, the housemates were split into four teams of three and each team was responsible for preparing one course of a four-course meal; the four courses being an entrée, starter, main course and dessert.

The theme for the entire dinner which was served on Wednesday night was The Colours of Africa.

The meal was served to One Campaign representatives namely, One Campaign executive, Dr. Sipho Moyo, former Miss Universe, Mpule Kwelagobe, and commissioner Tumusiime Rhoda Peace that came on Mondayto teach the housemates about opportunities in agriculture for young people.

From the moment the guests walked in, the housemates received them warmly and soon the entrée was in front of them and the guests dug in. The starter followed, as did the main course and dessert.

On the main course were Sipe, Zimbabwe’s JJ and Idris from Tanzania but it was the Malawian who briefed the visitors on the meal as well as keeping them company .

She seized the opportunity to sell Malawi to the visitors by telling them more about the country.

“Malawi is one beautiful country that is yet to be discovered. One of our many treasures is Lake Malawi which is the ninth largest lake in the world and the third largest and second deepest lake in Africa. It is home to more species of fish than any other lake, including about 1 000 species of cichlids. Come and try tasty Chambo, which you cannot find anywhere in the world apart from Malawi.

“We are not called the Warm Heart of Africa for nothing it’s because of the uniqueness in us, very warm, friendly and welcoming. You need to come to Malawi for holiday to enjoy this and many other things,” explained Sipe while beaming with a toothy smile.

All the while the visitors were listening intently to the hairdressers sermons while some of her housemates stole a smile or two possibly in agreement to what she was saying.

Mpule was very much interested in Malawi’s economy to which Sipe said: “It is agro-based and our foreign exchange earner is tobacco. In fact, this week’s task which is talking about agriculture, speaks volumes about many African countries, Malawi in particular because we rely on agriculture”.
