A six-year-old golf whizz-kid Ziyaad Mussa left the country Wednesday afternoon for Ndola, Zambia to take part in an international junior golf tournament called Chick of the North.

Mussa has been accompanied by Tripple A Golf Academy trainer Dingaan Chirwa who is also Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) assistant coach.zayaad-mussa

“The tournament will be held on Sunday August 23 and we were supposed to travel with two young golfers, unfortunately only Ziyaad has made it. The trip has been fully sponsored by his parents,” said Chirwa yesterday.

He said the year one Hill View International School pupil was chosen because of his outstanding performance in the six and under golf tournaments which he dominated.

“He has been impressive such that he is now competing with golfers who are slightly older than him in the eight and under category and even in that category he continues to shine as he comes either tops or second,” said Chirwa.

He said about 140 young golfers are expected to compete in four categories.

“It will also provide us a chance to gauge ourselves compared to Zambia, so it will be more of a learning curve for the boy and even me as a coach.”

Ziyaad will compete in the nine-hole category which covers four and a half kilometres of walking on the course.

The young golfer and his trainer were expected to have a stopover in Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday for a psychology session before proceeding to Zambia on Friday.
