Smith wins Steers Jnr Golf Tournament

With an impressive 59 strokes, Ken Smith on Saturday emerged the overall champion of the Under-13 Junior Golf Challenge Tournament at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) that was sponsored by Steers and Debonairs Pizza.

Smith came out tops in the nine-hole category.

For his feat, Smith got assorted prizes from Steers that included family meals in form of pizza and flame-grilled burgers.

“I am extremely thrilled to win the tournament. We had fun and I would like to thank the sponsors, the organising committee and the cuddies for making the tournament a success,” said Smith.

His runner-up was Daniel Kondwani (69 strokes) while Zain Jussab came third (73 strokes).

The five-hole category was won by Mustapha Jussab with 31 strokes, while Marcus Chalulu was his runner-up with 32 strokes and Liziwe Kadaluka came third with 43 strokes.

The three-hole category was won by Mikel Jussab with 18 strokes followed by Darren Kuyeri who had 24 shots whereas Cammella Frederick came third.

They all received assorted prizes from the sponsor from Steers.

Steers managing director Thom Nkosi-Banda said Steers was proud to be associated with the development of golf from the grass roots.

“Steers would like to see to it that you develop talents so that you become world-class golfers in the future,” said Nkosi-Banda.

This was the second time for Steers to sponsor the kids tournament.

The organising committee chairperson Dingaan Chirwa thanked Steers for organising the tournament.

“The junior development programme is proving to be a success and I would like to thank companies that are sponsoring the event, parents and everyone who is taking part,” said Chirwa.
