Soldiers march into Pres Cup semis

Malawi Defence Force (MDF) sides Moyale Barrack and Mafco are through to the Presidential Cup semi-final after triumphing in the quarter-final ties yesterday.

Moyale laboured to a 2-1 victory over Epac FC at Civo Stadium.

Chrispin Fukizi and Khuda Muyawa scored for the MDF side.

Epac pulled one back through Innocent Tanganyika.

Moyale coach Collins Nkuna was over the moon after the victory.

“Our opponents had chances in the first half and we struggled.  At half time I told the players to take the game to Epac. We really came back and attacked and we deservedly won,” said Nkuna.

Epac coach Audloy Makonyola rued missed chances for the defeat.

In another quarter-final match, Mafco booked a place in the semi-final after edging neighbours Dwangwa United at Chitowe Stadium.

Red-hot striker Richard Mbulu scored the lone goal to take his Presidential Cup goals tally to 19.

A jubilant Mafco FC chairperson Captain Peter Ng’oma expressed happiness for the victory.

“It was tough game but we made it,” said Ng’oma in a telephone interview from Dwangwa.

Moyale will play the winner between Max Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers while Mafco will play the winner between Nyasa Big Bullets and Kabwafu. n
