Under-20 National Basketball Team will engage top Southern Zone Basketball League  (Sozobal) outfits at Blantyre Youth Centre from today in preparation for the 2014 Zone VI Championship, in Zimbabwe in December.

The junior national team is expected to take on Poly Bobcats today. Tomorrow, they will face Hi-Flyerz and Lox 360.

According to the team’s head coach Hope Chisamanga, the games will be used to assess the 18-player squad ahead of the international contest.

“It is from these games that I will come up with the final squad of 12 players. I, therefore, urge all the players in the squad to give their all during these three friendly games,” Chisamanga said.

The U-20 squad, which is bankrolled by government through the Sports Council, had its first training camp with 30 players between August 10 and 20, but Chisamanga said the dates for the final camp are yet to be decided.

The U-20 team last competed in the Zone VI Championships in 2012 in Zambia where they finished seventh out of eight contesting national teams.
