Sparc Systems Limited managing director Wisely Phiri says there is need for improvement in cyber security through investment, not only in solutions, but also in the cyber community itself.

In an interview on Wednesday, he said it is imperative for the country and the various institutions to detect any attacks on digitised infrastructure.

Phiri was speaking in Blantyre on the sidelines of a training that the information and communications technology (ICT) company together with Oracle organised.

The training came against the background of reported incidents of cyber-attacks resulting in data breach in some local institutions.

Phiri said: “Cyber security is a team sport and for this to happen we require collaboration from industry players or security companies. The government and private sector need to align to strengthen the cyber security posture of our country.”

He further said there is need for policies such as the Data Protection Act that defines how cyber-attacks can be responded to.

Nico Technologies Limited chief executive officer Clarence Gama said while digitisation has brought about efficiency, it has also provided a platform where information can be easily exposed.

“As we grow as a country, we need to bear in mind that data that goes digital needs to be protected,” he said.
