Sports fraternity mourns administrator Goba

The sports family is in sorrow following the death of versatile sports administrator Hassan Bashir Goba in a road accident on Wednesday.

The deceased was chairperson  netball giants Kukoma Diamonds and treasurer for Malawi Amateur Boxing Association (Maba) South Chapter.

He was once a sponsor for the now-defunct football team Polychem All Stars, which produced renowned players such as Yamikani Chester, Isaac Kaliati and Bonda Mpinganjira.

At the time of his death in a head-on collision car accident near Stella Maris Secondary School in Blantyre, the late Goba was coming from Chikwawa district commissioner’s office where he presented his nomination papers as Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentary candidate.

“His passing is a big loss to Kukoma Diamonds because he was such a good leader that was committed to the well being of the team. May his soul rest in ertenal peace,” said Diamonds’ general secretary Chimwemwe Bakali.

Maba South Chapter general secretary Prince Chisese yesterday said they will miss the services of the experienced administrator, whose love for boxing was remarkable.

He added that Goba’s sudden death has prompted the chapter to postpone its extraordinary general meeting (EGM), which was scheduled for tomorrow at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC).

Goba’s body was expected to be buried yesterday at Ndakwela Village in Traditional Authority Ndakwela in Chikwawa. n
