SRFA targets K15m from bonanza

The Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) has said it has lined up a number of fundraising activities, including a bonanza as plan B in its quest for sponsorship.

Professor Peter Mutharika, before he became President, was the league’s last sponsor. SRFA is the country’s oldest league.

SRFA chairperson Raphael Humba said the bonanza could be held early next month targeting to raise between K10 million and K15 million.

“I know where to touch the button and get resources. We want the league to be attractive with programmes and initiatives that can appeal to companies,” said Humba.

The league has 44 teams in the Premier and Division One and each pays K140 000 affiliation fees, which translates to K6.2 million.

“We spend roughly K4 million on paying referees and from calculations if we can raise K10 million, we should run our league even without sponsorship,” he said.
