The eighth edition of the Standard Bank Cup rolls into life tomorrow with the preliminary round.

Azam Tigers host Epac at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre tomorrow [Wednesday] while Big Bullets will take on Airborne Rangers at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Thursday to determine the two teams that will join the six other teams which earned automatic participation as per last season’s Super League standings.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for this weekend while semi-finals are slated for next weekend with the finals set for August 31.

However, Bullets general secretary Harold Fote has said in the event that they win against Airborne, they will ask for a postponement of their quarter-final match.

“We can’t play three competitive matches within a week, it will be too hectic for our players.

“We played the Carlsberg final on Sunday, then we are expected to meet Airborne on Thursday and if we win that means we will meet Mafco at the weekend, it is not feasible. FAM will have to bear with us if we win,” said Fote.

However, FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said they will wait for official communication from Bullets and determine the way forward.

“But the fixture was made prior to the draw in liason with sponsor and we cannot guarantee changes,” he said.
