Standard Bank hands over unit to Dedza Hospital

Standard Bank last week handed over a K3.8 million (about $22 754) Family Health Unit building to Dedza District Hospital as one way of easing congestion at the hospital’s ante-natal clinic.

Speaking when handing over the unit to Minister of Health Dr Jean Kalilani, the bank’s director of personal and business banking Paul Omara said they wanted to ease the suffering mothers and children go through in the wake of the HIV and Aids.

“We believe that with this newly built unit, the heart-breaking scenarios of seeing mothers, some with babies on their backs, loitering in the scorching heat or rain-soaked, waiting for their turn to be attended to in the overcrowded ante-natal will be a thing of the past,” said Omara.
