Sulom clears air on Fisd Wizards’ exemption

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has cleared the air over Fisd Wizards’ (formerly Surestream FC) exemption from TNM Super League matches.

Wizards have not been allocated a fixture for three consecutive weeks now raising questions from some quarters.

But Sulom treasurer Tiya Somba-Banda yesterday said this is because the bulk of their players are sitting for Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.

“Their exemption is by design because 17 of their players are sitting for MSCE exams. They asked for exemption last month and we verified with the schools and confirmed that it was true,” said Banda.

He said Wizards are excused until July 4, but he played down suggestions that the development could put the rookies under pressure in the quest to catch up with the other teams.

Surestream have played nine matches and second from the bottom with six points.
