Sulom fines Mafco K605 000

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has fined Mafco FC K605 000 for disorderliness during their TNM Super League match against Be Forward Wanderers on November 7 this year.

The match was played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre where the Nomads came from behind to emerge 2-1 victors.

According to a communique from Sulom signed by general secretary Williams Banda, the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) sponsored side was found guilty of disrupting the normal proceeding of the match which led to a 12-minute stoppage as they protested the Nomads equaliser.

They claimed was scored when one of their players lay on the pitch injured.

Mafco striker Richard Mbulu and a Sichali were also found guilty of physically confronting referee Warneck Mlenga

The two were also found guilty of invading the pitch. This was after Mbulu, was red carded while Sichali was sent to the stands in the course of the game.

Reads part of the Sulom verdict: “They are fined K150 000 each as per Article 22. [L] and K15 000 is for clearing the red card and K20 000 for the second red card and another K20 000 for the third red card as per Article 22.

“Richard Mbulu, who jumped over the fence, is fined K250 000 as per article 21.12, [thereby] bringing the game of football into disrepute,” reads part of the verdict.

Mafco were also faulted for failing to control the actions of their officials and players.

“All the fines totalling K605 000 are payable before Mafco FC next fixture without fail.”

Mafco FC chairperson Major Sikaloka Kaliati yesterday said he could not comment as he was yet to be furnished with the verdict. n
