In a dramatic twist to Tony Chitsulo’s transfer saga, Sulom has said Mighty Wanderers cannot use the player despite Silver Strikers’ move to allow them to feature him.

The 23-year-old striker has been at the centre of a protracted transfer wrangle between the two teams following the Nomads’ failure to settle the K1.9 million transfer fee.

However, when asked if the league had given the Nomads the green light to feature Chitsulo in their remaining three league matches, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) general secretary Williams Banda said players are not cleared when the curtain is about to close.

“We have also not been formally advised on the matter. FAM [Football Association of Malawi] is handling the matter, the parties need to tread carefully.

“Of course, the player has suffered for the greater part of the season, but the case was in court. So, unless we are written formally on the conditions agreed between the two parties, we will exercise caution because even the clearance had restrictions whose problems are currently being experienced,” said Banda.

But Wanderers general secretary David Kanyenda said there would be no need for Sulom to stand in the way because the player’s clearance was already issued and it was Sulom who ordered them not to continue featuring the player until the transfer wrangle was resolved.

The letter from Silver’s legal adviser, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, asked Sulom to proceed and allow the Nomads to feature Chitsulo.

Kanyenda said they plan to start featuring Kanyenda next season so that he can gain match-fitness.

“He will still be training, but we will not feature him in the remaining games, but in off-season bonanza and friendly matches,” he said.

Kanyenda admitted that it was an error of judgement on their part to protract the player’s transfer wrangle.

Chitsulo featured in only three games for the Nomads at the start of the season and has been out of action for about six months and a soccer commentator Kelvin Moyo said the situation could affect his career.
