Lilongwe and Districts Foootball League’s last season runners-up Support Battalion on Sunday launched their Super League promotion campaign by collecting maximum points at the newly constructed Nambuma Stadium.

The soldiers edged Nambuma United 2-1 in the launch game.

It was a pop up launch that started with models Pachalo Manyamba and Shakira Mlotha parading trophies on a convoy.

The visitors were ahead in the 15th minute through Amos Khamula who connected home a cross from Noel Pachanya.

In the 28th minute they extended their lead to 2-0.

The home side reduced the arrears in the 82nd minute through Frazer Menyani (not of Azam Tigers).

Menyani connected a cross from Tofani Kaphala and beat Support’s goalkeeper Lobium Mwamula who had a grand game.

Battalion coach Victor Nyirenda hailed his troops for the hard fought victory.

He said despite the victory, the game exposed some lapses that need to be rectified in his team if they are to achieve their mission.

Speaking at the launch, Chipiku Stores administrative manager Brown Mkangama appealed to the teams to observe discipline during the games.

“Football is the major activity that entertains the community, but it becomes discouraging when it is marred by violence. I would like to urge the players to observe discipline on the ground to send a good message to the supporters,” said Mkangama.
