Mponda: the absence of the seven players is no cause for worry

Professor Peter Mutharika SRFL First Division pacesetters Surestream Academy have  said they will continue fulfilling league fixtures despite the absence of seven key players who are in camp with Nigeria-bound Joyce Banda Foundation (JBF).

Surestream Academy, who top the league 10 points from three games, will host Chez Ntemba in their fifth game on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The academy’s technical director Peter Mponda said the absence of the seven players is no cause for worry.

“We are an academy outfit and the emphasis is to identify and groom promising talent and therefore the absence of these players should create an opportunity for others to showcase their talents.

“As I said earlier on, our focus is not to win the league and we registered 30 players who need to be given a chance for exposure,” said the former Flames captain.

Surestream survived a big scare without most of their key players when they faced Mitole and they had to come from two goals down in the first-half to force a 2-2 draw last weekend. So far, they have won three and drawn once.

Mangochi Police are breathing down Surestream’s necks on second position with nine points also from four games having lost to Luchenza 4-2 last weekend.

Mangochi Police host Phalombe Open Arms in Mangochi tomorrow.

In other First Division matches, Rays of Hope engage Northern Stars at Escom ground on Saturday (12.30pm) and on Sunday, Luchenza Tea Stars take on Chinangwa Madrid in Luchenza, Makoka Reaserch host Mitole, New Stars take on Blantyre ADD while Bvumbwe Research Reserves date Rays of Hope.
