Surestream Academy on Saturday beat White Eagles 2-0 at Police Training School in Limbe to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the national phase of the Carlsberg Cup.

A goal in each half from Telekeleni Joseph and Phillip Chirwa ensured the academy qualification into the final regional round in which they will face winners between Kabula United and Bvumbwe Research who were meeting yesterday.

However, Surestream’s technical director Peter Mponda said despite the win, his team did not play according to plan.

“The solace is that we made good use of the chances we created,” said Mponda. His Eagles counterpart, Charles Kavalo, said his charges were disturbed by Surestream’s first goal that came in the 12th minute.

“Just when it appeared we would level the score, they put the game beyond our reach with the second goal that came in added time,” said Kavalo.

Zomba United and Ndirande Icons qualified for the national phase after beating Evirom and Max Bullets respectively.

Evirom, who were relegated from the Super League last season, were booted out by another former Super League side Zomba United 9-8 on post-match penalties at Zomba Community Centre Ground. They had settled for a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

“It is unfortunate that we did not achieve our goal to qualify for the national phase; otherwise, it was a good game and I am happy that the team that I am building, is picking up,” said Evirom coach Aubrey Nankhuni.

Ndirande Icons edged Max Bullets 1-0 at BAT Ground.
