Synod promotes inclusive education in Chitipa District
Livingstonia Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has commended its inclusive education project in Chitipa as crucial in helping children with disabilities access education.
Livingstonia Synod Education Department programmes manager Atupele Mankhota said this on Tuesday during a project exit meeting with Chitipa District Council Executive Committee.

She said the Promoting Equal Access to Education Malawi project they were implementing in the district reached out to at least 2 000 learners.
Mankhota said the project was complementing government’s efforts in reaching out to learners with disabilities.
She said: “As a result, the attendance and pass rate for special needs learners has improved in schools.
“Besides learners benefitting from the project, teachers, parents and community members have also benefitted from through various trainings.”
Mankhota said they sponsored 30 primary school teachers at the Catholic University of Malawi where they graduated with certificates in special needs education.
“Mother groups have also acquired knowledge and skills on how to deal with the girls with disabilities she said.
Chitipa district chief education officer Clement Nyirenda said they will sustain the project’s gain.
“We thank the synod for empowering teachers, parents and communities to advance inclusive education in the district,” he said.
The project, which was being funded by the Scottish Government through Sense Scotland, rolled out in 2018 and phased out on March 31 2024.
