Tabitha Chawinga back in Sweden
Malawi international striker Tabitha Chawinga is finally back in Sweden after a delayed return due to visa hitches, her new club chairperson Olle Davidsson confirmed.
Chawinga, who returned home last November for off-season break, was expected back in Sweden mid February, but the visa delay mean that she only go there two weeks ago.
“The league starts on the 12 of April for us.Tabitha arrived late because of visa problems home in Malawi, so she has practiced for a week now,” Davidson said in an e-mailed response.
Chawinga begins new life at Kvamsveden in the second tier Elitettan league for Sweden women football having signed last season from third level side Krokom/Dvarsatts to Kvarnsveden.In becoming the first Malawian woman footballer export to Europe, the 19-year-old instantly left a huge impression when winning the Golden Boot Award with 39 goals.
She won the award despite joining the Sweden third tier league while already in progress from DD Sunshine of Lilongwe.
The top-tier league in Sweden is called Damallsvenskan.
