Tabitha leading scorer in Chinese Cup
Malawi women football export Tabitha Chawinga is leading the scorers chart in the Chinese National Women’s Championship tournament with 11 goals.
The prolific forward yesterday netted a brace when her team Jingsu Suning beat fellow top-flight league side Guangdong 3-1 to finish the first stage of the tournament at the top.
Tabitha’s side led 2-0 at interval and she scored the opener and the last goal.
“This one was a bit tough because we were up against a fellow top league side, but in the end we excelled. I thank God for His blessings,” she said.
Tabitha has scored three goals more than the second leading scorer.
“It feels good that I am the leading scorer at this stage, but let us see what happens in the end because there is still some way to go,” said the 2018 Chinese Women Footballer of the Year.
Last season, she also won the top league’s Golden Boot Award and was among 10 nominees for the CAF Africa Footballer of the Year Award. n
