Malawi’s first women’s professional football Europe export Thabitha Chawinga is yet to sign a contract with Swedish First Division club Krokom/Dvarsatt IF although she is featuring in competitive games.

However, speaking in an interview from her Ostersund base in the Scandanavian domain on Friday, Chawinga said the delay to sign the contract is not affecting her in any way.

“As you know, a contract is a process and once everything is finalised, I will sign. The most important thing is that my team is fulfilling its obligations and I am happy,” said the 18-year-old national women football team star.

However, her former club DD Sunshine’s director, David Dube, who facilitated the move attributed the development to negotiations on the player’s studies.

“To me that is exceptional because we are negotiating her education first. We shall settle on the contract when all is cleared,” said Dube.

Tabitha also said she is enjoying her game and is currently the third leading scorer in the league.

“So far, so good. I have scored six goals, three short of the leading scorer and I am third on the scorers chart.

“I will work extra hard to compete for the Golden Boot Award,” said the former DD Sunshine star.

She said her team is currently sixth out of 12 on the log standings, “but we are trying harder to improve on our position.”
