Malawi women’s football team striker Tabitha Chawinga’s Swedish side Kvarnsvedens IK on Wednesday reached the semi-finals of the Swedish Women Football Cup.

Kvarnsvedens IK beat Kristiansted 6-5 on post match penalties at Ljungbergsplane stadium.

The quarter-final game ended 1-1 after regulation time.

Had her goal cancelled: Chawinga

Sjalvmal cancelled Kvarnsvedens IK’s lead in the 44th minute after former DD Sunshine striker Chawinga gave the home side a lead in the 5th minute.

Chawinga, who now has scored seven goals in the tournament, said they earned the victory in a hard way.

“We played a good side no wonder the game went into penalties. The game could have gone either way as penalties are un predictable, but I thank God that we made it. We are now looking forward to semi-final game. It will be tough as the higher you go the tougher it becomes, “said Chawinga.

The 20-year-old said her dream is to reach the finals and win the cup.

“We just need to be focused, then we will realise our dream of grabbing the cup. With God everything is possible,” she said.

Kvarnsvedens play against Rosengard FC, to be played in May.

The other semi-final is between Linkoping and Orebro.

Meanwhile the Swedish league will kick-off on April 16. n
