Lester Tandwe rolled in a four-foot par putt on the 18th hole at Country Club Limbe (CCL) on Saturday to win the NBS Bank Monthly Mug to end a five-year title drought.

The 47-year-old handicap13 golfer last won a title in 2009, but last weekend he put up a gallant fight to walk out with an incredible score of net 67. He outsmarted a field of 40 contestants. His runner-up was Gabriel Kambale, who counted out Andrew Ngomwa on net 71.

In the five-player ladies’ category, handicap 10 Roza Mbilizi emerged victorious with net 70.

Tandwe, who accumulated 11 pars due to consistency with his swing on the fairway, was the happiest of them all.

“It has been a long time since I won a trophy and it feels good to be a winner today,” said Tandwe, who has now added a fourth trophy on his mantelpiece.

NBS head of corporate and institutional banking Kenum Siula thanked the golfers for participating in the monthly event and urged them to take part in the bank’s promotions as well.

“We have just completed the Zaphweka Promotions and we will come back with yet another promotion on June 1. We, therefore, want to see as any golfers as possible taking part in this competition as well,” said Siula. He added that those wishing to remit foreign currency should visit the bank for assistance.
