Hip-hop artist Tay Grin over the weekend gave a hearty talk about Malawi arts, culture and tourism when he was featured on BBC Radio in Scotland.

The Malawian rapper, who is in Scotland for a Lake of Stars show organised on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Games, was featured alongside the Scottish hip-hop group Stanley Odd which is expected to perform at the 2014 Lake of Stars and the festival’s representatives.

Pencil PR, which attends to the artist’s public relations said Tay Grin spoke about enhancing culture and how working together with Scottish artists will help build Malawi’s industry and creatives, how people from other parts of the world can come to Malawi and learn from Malawian culture and enjoy site seeing through our tourism.

The group also touched on Malawi’s Lake of Stars, arts and music festival and how Scottish people should not only look at Malawi as a charity case but a tourist destination as well as a place they can come and have a great time and enjoy with their family.

“We spoke about the greatness of the Lake of Stars and encouraged people from Scotland to come out to the festival this September,” Tay Grin is quoted as saying.

The Malawian rapper on Saturday performed at the Glasgow Green Live Zone, sharing the stage with other Malawian artists Mafilika, The Very Best and Stanley Odd as well as Algerian-British rising star YADi.

“I thank Lake of Stars, especially Will Jameson [LOS founder] for inviting me down. This is the biggest European show I will be doing and it’s a great platform to introduce myself to everyone this side.

It was energetic evening of hip-hop, afro-indie and dance-pop, celebrating Glasgow and Scotland’s relationship with Malawi. We performed in front of 12 000 fans.

“The show was massive. We had team of some of Malawi’s athletes who are in Scotland for the Commonwealth Games that came on stage to support us, it was awesome. Alongside Mafilika band with Johan and Esau of The Very Best we performed a song called The Beach, my new single featuring The Very Best,” he said.

Lake of Stars, a music and art festival that promotes Malawian arts and tourism through international interaction and exposure, took advantage of the games to organise the festival to strengthen creative connections between Scotland and Malawi and to bring the sounds of Malawi to the world.

Meanwhile, Tay Grin is now in the United Kingdom where he is scheduled to have shows in Manchester on August 2, in Nottingham on August 9 and another show will be in Dublin, Ireland with details to be communicated later.
