Teacher’s breasts earn man four yrs IHL

Nkhata Bay First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to four years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for touching a teacher’s breasts without her consent.

Nkhata Bay Police spokesperson Ignatius Esau on Thursday identified the convict as Willing Banda of Japi Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mkumbira in Nkhata Bay.

He was arrested for fondling breasts of a teacher at Nkhata Bay Community Day Secondary School.

Said Esau: “The incident happened at Nkhata Bay Trading Centre where the suspect, Banda, touched the breasts of the complainant without her consent.

“He was arrested on the same day and was charged with a case of indecent assault which is contrary to Section 137 of the Penal Code.”

Banda appeared before court on Wednesday where he pleaded not guilty.

However, the State paraded three witnesses who testified against him and the court found him guilty.

In mitigation, Banda pleaded for court’s leniency, saying he has no wife and he takes care of orphans.

But presiding magistrate Billy Ngosi handed him a four-year jail term.
