Chiwondo Teacher’s Development Centre (TDC) in Karonga District has commended teachers, traditional leaders and parents in Chiwondo Zone for the outstanding 2023 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education examination results.

The TDC’s management committee chairperson Sylvester Kasimba said this on Saturday during the awarding ceremony of schools that performed well in the examinations.

He said: “For learners to do well, it means there was proper coordination and team work among teachers, parents and traditional leaders. Above all, it signifies commitment and dedication from the learners themselves.

“So, it was imperative to organise such an event to recognise teachers, schools and learners for the achievement.”

Momba holds the trophy high

During the event, Gumi Primary School emerged the best school in the zone and got K30 000 and a trophy.

The school’s head teacher Francis Momba attributed the achievement to good coordination, hard work and cordial working relationship among teachers.

“The strategies that we put in place as a school have borne fruits. We had dedicated teachers who were hungry for success. We will continue to work hard to retain the position,” he said.

Chiwondo Zone primary education adviser Batamibe Mwalwanda said in 2021 the zone recorded a 77 percent pass rate, in 2022, 84 percent pass rate and this year the pass rate is 94.5 percent.

During the event, 14 out of 18 schools and 113 out of 128 teachers were awarded.
