Tembo: I need your blessings

Silver Strikers FC general secretary Mike Tembo has written the club’s management seeking their endorsement to contest the general secretary position during the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) elections in March.
Tembo said yesterday it has been his ambition to serve in Sulom.
“I wish to inform you and seek your views on my long-time intentions of joining Sulom and thereby declare my candidature as general secretary in the forthcoming Sulom elections. Silver Strikers as an affiliate of Sulom, we can endorse a candidate for any position; hence, I need your blessings to support and endorse my name for the candidacy as Sulom GS,” said Tembo in a letter to Silver dated Tuesday January 6.
“It is my humble request that you send your own made football administrator to take up such a challenging position in our beloved country.”
Among other things, Tembo said, he wants to serve Sulom to advance the interest of clubs so that football develops in the country.
“My main opinion is to have the clubs as best beneficiaries in all funds raised with regards to football activities, be fair to all football clubs as part of fair play requirement, be quick in resolving football matters, make all affiliates have a say in the running of affairs unlike how the situation is at the moment,” said Tembo.
If endorsed by his club, Tembo will compete against incumbent Williams Banda.
Silver are yet to respond to Tembo’s request.
Sulom president Innocent Bottoman is also set to seek re-election alongside Tiya Somba-Banda on the treasurer position.
