Teveta for greater women participation
Teveta human resource and administration director Moses Mwenye made the remarks during the closure of a week-long strategic management for organisation’s success course in Blantyre on Friday.
He said the course ended a history of courses that were being shunned by senior staff as content was misconceived as only suitable for junior staff, but failed to bridge gender disparities in the workplace.
“I feel privileged to close a training that drew very high profile participants…but I would like to urge organisations to be gender sensitive when identifying staff for training and we [Teveta] will make a deliberate effort to mention gender balance issues in invitation letters,” said Mwenye.
He said the improved status of participants shows the authority is living up to Tevet Act which empowers it to promote and provide short-term training programmes to improve the performance of both public and private sectors.
Speaking on behalf of the male-dominated team of trainees, Medical Aid Society of Malawi accountant Ernest Mangani said the strategic management course would help their companies move forward even in the face of unforeseen eventualities, including the aftermaths of the devaluation of the kwacha.
“Time for general management is up because it is only strategic management will help adapt to planning that takes into account changing economic times. This is an art and science that must be shared with our workmates; it mustn’t be shelved to gather dust in our minds,” said Mangani.
This was the 12th tailor-made course by Teveta in this ending financial year, thanks to the levy it collects from the corporate sector. Marketing plan, branding and strategy development will be the last in the line.
