Thank you for the women’s health section

Akossa

I would like to thank the Every Woman team for introducing the women’s health section. Though I miss reading Lennie Kamwendo’s reproductive health articles, I am more than pleased with the new column, which affords women to voice out their sexual and reproductive health issues that seem too sensitive to take to the gynaecologist.

Though you refer most of these women to a gynaecologist for a proper assessment of their situation, the fact that you get expert information on the problem and explain it in simple terms in your paper makes it easier for women to boldly step up to their gynaecologists.

I was very touched with the “rectal bleeding” story and hope that the girl who experienced it does not have a serious problem. I too have emailed a query which I hope will soon be tackled.  Please keep up the good work Every Woman!

Ed’s Response:

Dear reader,

Thank you very much for acknowledging our efforts. One thing I learnt from Lennie Kamwendo when she was still writing for us is that Malawians have a hunger for information. Most suffer in silence with reproductive health problems that they are too shy to talk to their doctors about. They would rather send an sms or email using an anonymous account because they do not know the magnitude of their problem. Judging from the number of queries we are getting and how desperate most of these sound, I would agree with Lennie. It is our hope that readers will be freer to interact with their doctors on sensitive issues and that doctors will create an environment in which openness between them and their patients can strive. I matched your number with the smses we have received on the sms line and rest assured that your problem has been put through to one of the gynaecologists we seek advice from.

Please keep reading Every Woman!
