The Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday jailed three men for burglary and theft.
George Mwanyengo, Maliko Paulo and Maxwell Chakanika, were found guilty of stealing Kelvin Balakasi’s laptop, an Internet dongle and headsets.
The court heard that on July 2 2012, the three broke into Balakasi’s house at Falls Estate in the capital and stole the items worth K175 000 (about $700).
In her ruling, magistrate Cecelia Onsewa said she sentenced Mwanyengo and Chakanika to three years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) because the Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court once convicted them on similar charges.
Maliko Paulo was handed an 18-month jail term for being a first time offender.—Mana
