Three Malawian internationals Robert Ng’ambi (Platinum Stars), Esau Kanyenda (Polokwane City) and Atusaye Nyondo (University of Pretoria) are in contention for the South African PSL Golden Boot Award having scored four goals each.

The trio is four goals short of the leading scorer Kaizer Chiefs’ Bernard Parker who has scored eight goals.

Nyondo scored his fourth league goal on Sunday to help his team beat Black Aces 2-0.

According to South African online reports, Nyondo struck the first for Amatuks in the 62nd minute after being put through by Thabo Mosadi who went on to score the second goal.

Following the win, UP are now on ninth position with 17 points from 15 games.

Another Flames forward Robin Ngalande (BidVest Wits University) has scored two goals while Gabadinho Mhango (Bloemfotein Celtic) and Peter Wadabwa (Golden Arrows) have scored a goal each.

Defender Limbikani ‘Pupa’ Mzava who also plays for Bloemfontein Celtic, is the only Malawian yet to get on the score sheet in the South African flagship league.

Kanyenda said it feels good that Malawian players are picking up in form.

“It shows that we are making progress and, hopefully, it will translate to the national team,” said Kanyenda.n
