Listen to this article

Unknown thugs threw a petrol bomb at a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vehicle in Mzuzu on Tuesday morning, the party has said. DPP regional governor (North) Kenneth Sanga said on Tuesday the attack happened at Mchengautuwa where the car, a Toyota Hilux registration BP 8395, was packed outside the house of DPP director of youth Kelvin Chirambo. Sanga said he suspects that the attack was politically motivated, but could not shed more light, saying the matter is in the hands of the police. He said the thugs through a five-litre petrol bomb in the pickup, but Chirambo and his neighbours rushed to put out the fire and saved the vehicle. Mzuzu Police spokesperson Maurice Chapola confirmed the incident and said police have started investigating the matter.  —GEORGE SINGINI, Staff Reporter
