Thugs ransack Kendal’s home

Thugs broke into musician Kendal Kamwendo’s house in Area 25, Lilongwe on the Wednesday night, before going away with a number of items.

Kendal has told Nation Online said the thieves, who were armed with pangas and rifles, jumped over a perimeter fence and entered his compound, before entering servants’ quarters.

“Around 1am of Wednesday, six bulky men first broke into the boys’ quarter and told everybody to lie down,” said Kendal of the popular Lilongwe music duo Symon and Kendal.

The thieves asked for money from my garden boy, but they didn’t find any.

“In no time, they descended on the main house where I was sleeping,” said Kendal, in a telephone interview today.

The musician added that after entering the main house, they asked everybody to lie down and surrender all the cash in the house, but there was none.

“After noting that their mission had gone in vain, they opted to take away items from the house, which are cameras, phones, TV sets and decoders, among others. We have since reported this matter to Kanengo police who have assured us that they will trace the thugs,” he said.

Kendal thanked God for sparing his life and that of his family.

“I am grateful that we were not hacked. It was a terrifying moment, but we survived with no injuries. I thank God for sparing our lives,” the artist said.

Symon and Kendal rose to fame in 2004 with their song Nyemba Nyemba.

Kendal and Symon have been longtime friends after sharing a volleyball pitch in early 2000.

While playing volleyball, the two were ardent composers of traditional songs which mesmerised spectators. Months later, they dared studio microphines and dropped one. Together, they have six albums.
