Malawi’s Deputy Minister of Finance Ralph Pacharo Jooma has commended the African Development Bank (AfDB) for supporting the country’s development programmes, especially in health, agriculture, irrigation and water development, transport and education sectors.

Speaking recently when he opened the Africa Development Bank 2012 Country Portfolio Performance Review (CPPR) and Assessment of the Interim Country Assistance Paper (2011-2012) workshop at Sunbird Capital, Jooma said that the country is indebted to ADB.

This year alone, the bank has approved three operations. In the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the bank has approved the Higher Education Science and Technology Support Project whereas in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the bank has funded the Competitiveness for Job Creation in Private Sector Project.

“The total amount for all this is approximately U$ 96 million. This is in addition to other ongoing projects supported by the bank. Such a huge amount of resources is yielding the intended benefits for all Malawians,” said Jooma.

According to Jooma, government is doing its best to effectively use all the aid it gets from donor partners.
